police manga will be adapted into a The 24th issue (released on May 14) of Kodansha's Weekly Shonen Magazine has announced that Yuma Ando and Masashi Asaki's Shibatoratelevision drama. The story follows a rookie cop named Taketora Shibata who has the ability to see anything at a crime scene. Nevertheless, it's still a struggle to rise out of the ranks and become a real detective. Within the story, Shibata is popular among girls for looking "just like [Lovely Complex and Gokusen 2's boyish actor/singer] Teppei Koike" — and fortunately for the television drama producers, the actor Koike himself signed up for the role. The actress who will play the heroine Mitsuki is still being kept secret. The drama will premiere on Japan's Fuji TV and its affiliates this July.

Ando is one of several pennames for Shin Kibayashi, the creator of GetBackers (under the name Yuya Aoki), Kindaichi Case Files (Seimaru Amagi), and Hero (Tadashi Agi). The Shibatora manga has been running since December of 2006, and the sixth volume of the manga will go on sale in Japan on May 16.

This year's 24th issue of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine has published the first official image of Justin Chatwin as the main character Son Goku in James Wong's live-action Dragonball film on Monday. The film adapts Akira Toriyama's fantasy fighting manga, which ran in the same magazine from 1984 to 1995. The magazine's article confirms that Japan will be the first country in the world to screen the film in March of 2009. The film will then open in the United States on April 3. Chow Yun-Fat (Master Roshi), Emmy Rossum (Bulma), Jamie Chung (Chichi), James Marsters (Piccolo), and Eriko Tamura (Mai) also star in the international production.
